How to Get Verified on X in 2026
How I get a client verified on X in 2026: X Help's About X Blue Checkmark is the official meaning. Premium vs Premium+ vs Verified Organizations, and the setup mistakes that stall the badge.
You get verified on X in 2026 by paying for X Premium or Verified Organizations, not by emailing a journalist. Personal accounts use Premium or Premium+. Companies use Verified Organizations. Legacy verification is a different, closed program. Read About X Blue Checkmark and the legacy verification policy before you confuse the two.
I write this for personal brands, client accounts, in-house SMMs, and creators who still call it Twitter in meetings. The badge is a subscription flag plus extra features. It isn’t a fame certificate.
TL;DR
- Individuals: subscribe in the X app under Premium. Confirm the live price in-app. Help docs: About X Premium and About X Blue Checkmark.
- Companies: Verified Organizations. Confirm the live bill in that flow.
- SocialBee, SocialPilot, then X Help. I name those. I don’t invent a price sticker.
- Don’t buy a badge from a freelancer. That’s how accounts get stolen.
How do I get verified on X in 2026?
Open X on the account you want badged, go to Premium, pay, confirm your phone number, and wait. That’s the individual path. If the account is a company, buy Verified Organizations and attach affiliates.
I do the subscribe step on the web when the App Store price is higher. X has charged different amounts by platform before. I screenshot the checkout for the client.
Official explainer: About X Premium.
What does X Help say the blue checkmark means now?
About X Blue Checkmark is the Help article I open first. The check on a Premium account means the account is subscribed and in standing, not that a government certified you. Legacy checks followed a different policy. If a client still says “Twitter verified,” I send them that Help URL plus the legacy verification policy so they stop mixing the two.
I tell clients to read the check as “this handle is subscribed and in good standing,” then still verify the bio, the website, and the people.
What’s the difference between X Premium and legacy verification?
Premium is a subscription. Legacy verification was the old notability review. They are not the same badge.
A normal brand in 2026 buys Premium or Verified Organizations. They don’t email a journalist for the 2018 form.
SocialBee’s X verification guide and SocialPilot’s step-by-step both walk Premium vs the old check. I use Help as the source of record. I use those two as extra how-tos.
How much does X Premium cost in 2026?
X shows the live price in the app and on web checkout. Help Center articles cover Premium and Premium+ including price-change notes such as Premium+ price adjustment.
I could not load a single global sticker that’s true for iOS, Android, and web in every country. I expense the number on the checkout screen, not a blog. I don’t invent an “$8 on web” figure as fact.
Verified Organizations is a separate, higher bill. Confirm in the Organizations product flow, not in a 2024 screenshot.
How do I subscribe on a personal X account without messing up a client login?
- Log into the correct handle. Check the avatar before you pay.
- Open Premium from the left menu on web, or Settings then Premium in the app.
- Pick Premium or Premium+. I pick Premium unless the client needs the extra Premium+ writing and longer video features they already asked for.
- Add a card the client owns. Don’t put it on your personal Apple ID if you will lose the job.
- Confirm phone number and email on that handle.
- Wait. Don’t change the @handle the same afternoon.
Who should pay, me or the client?
The client. Always. Premium is identity-adjacent billing. If you leave the agency, they should keep the badge.
When should a company buy Verified Organizations instead of Premium?
When the account is the company, not a person, and they want the organization check plus affiliate badges for executives. A founder can stay on personal Premium. The brand handle should not look like a person’s hobby account if legal cares.
Help doc: About X Verified Organizations.
I don’t mix a CEO’s personal Premium and a brand Organizations seat without writing down who owns the invoice.
Why is the checkmark missing after I paid?
Handle changed. Phone not confirmed. Payment failed after a trial. You subscribed on @oldbrand while posting from @newbrand. X is still reviewing. The app is showing a cached profile.
I force-close the app, check x.com on desktop while logged in, and open Settings then Premium to see “Active.” If it’s active and the check is gone, I wait a day before I tweet at support from a second account.
Does X Premium increase reach?
Sometimes your posts get more distribution than a free account. X has said Premium affects visibility. I still would not forecast a follower curve from the badge alone.
If the account posts once a month, the check won’t save it. If you want growth mechanics, I already wrote how to grow on X in 2026.
Is X verification worth it for a social media manager’s client?
Yes if the client is impersonated, sells through DMs, or wants reply access in conversations where free accounts are limited. No if they never log into X and you’re buying it for a screenshot in a pitch deck.
Count the real use: posting, ads, support, hiring. If X is a graveyard, skip the bill.
Is it worth it for a creator vs a local business?
Creator who lives in replies: Premium is part of the job, like a domain. Local restaurant that crossposts from Instagram: usually skip. B2B founder who closes deals in DMs: Premium.
Instagram is a different checkout. See how to get verified on Instagram and Meta Verified review.
What scams should I ignore?
Anyone selling a gold check. Anyone who wants your password to “apply.” Fake support accounts in DMs after you tweet “why isn’t my check here.”
I only use help.x.com and the in-app Premium screen.
How do I keep the badge if we rebrand the handle?
Change names slowly. Update the website and the bio first. Avoid a same-day @handle swap plus a billing change. If you must rename, expect the badge to lag.
Document the Apple or Stripe receipt in the client folder. Future you will need it.
How do I verify a personal X and a company X without mixing bills?
Personal Premium on the founder handle. Verified Organizations on the brand handle. Two invoices. Two owners.
If you put the brand on the founder’s Apple ID, the day they leave you will fight a receipt.
How I label the cards
The legal entity name in the billing descriptor. Not the intern’s debit card.
What extra does Premium+ actually change for an SMM?
Longer video, extra writing features, and whatever X is selling that month. I only upgrade if the client already asked for a specific Premium+ feature by name.
How I avoid upsells in the app
Subscribe on web when the store tax is worse. Screenshot the plan name. Don’t tap the yearly toggle by accident if the client wanted month-to-month.
Can I get verified on X without a phone number?
Not in any flow I trust. Confirm the phone. Use a number the client controls, not a virtual number that dies.
What if the number is already on another handle?
Remove it from the old handle first. X is picky. I do this before I pay.
How do I explain the check to customers who still think it means fame?
I put one line in the bio plus a website. I tell support staff the check means subscribed, not certified by a government.
What I tell salespeople not to say
“We’re Twitter verified so we’re legit.” Say “this is the official handle” and point at the website.
How do I get a client verified on X if they only log in twice a month?
I’d not pay Premium for a graveyard. If they need the handle reserved and the check for sales emails, they must post. Otherwise we skip the bill.
What I set up anyway
2FA, a recovery email they own, and the website in the bio. That’s identity hygiene without a subscription.
What if X removes the check after a handle change?
Expect a lag. Check Premium is still Active. Don’t buy a second plan on a duplicate account. Wait a day, then use in-app help.
How I document it for a nervous founder
A screenshot of Active status, the receipt, and the current @handle. Three images in Slack beat a theory.
How do I get verified on X for a creator who also wants Premium features?
Subscribe because they already reply all day and they want the writing and video extras, then treat the check as a side effect. If they only want the check, I still walk through 2FA and the phone number first.
What I test after the check appears
Can they reply in a crowded thread. Does the profile show the badge on web and app. Is billing on the client’s card. If any of those fail, we aren’t done.
How should an in-house team handle executive personal accounts?
The executive pays, the executive owns the phone number, comms gets posting rights if the policy says so. I don’t hang a CMO’s Premium on the intern’s Apple ID.
What belongs in the social policy
No political posts from the brand handle. Personal Premium is personal. Brand Organizations is brand. Mix those and you will explain it to legal.
I also warn teams that web and iOS prices can differ, so the number in a 2024 screenshot isn’t the invoice. We expense the checkout we see. If Premium+ is on the screen and we wanted Premium, we back out before we save the card.
For creators who live in replies, I’d rather they pay and post than lurk with a check. The badge on a silent account looks like a parked domain.
I also save the help-center URLs in the client folder because X renames menus, and I’d rather open About X Premium than guess in a meeting.
A parked check fools no one who can click the bio link.
Post or don’t pay.
Silence plus a badge is still silence.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get verified on X in 2026?
Subscribe to X Premium or Premium+ on the account, add a payment method, confirm a phone number, and wait for the check to appear after X finishes checks. Organizations use Verified Organizations instead of a personal Premium plan. There is no free legacy application for a normal brand.
How much does X Premium cost?
X publishes Premium, Premium+, and Verified Organizations on help.x.com and in the app. Web and mobile store prices differ. Confirm the live sticker in the app for your country before you expense it. I do not invent a global price.
Is the X checkmark the same as Instagram Meta Verified?
No. They are different companies, different IDs, and different bills. Instagram is covered in my Meta Verified and Instagram verification posts.
Can a business get a gold or gray check on X?
Verified Organizations is the business path. Affiliate seats can badge people who work there. Personal Premium is a different check. Pick the path that matches whether you are a person or a company.
Why is my X Premium check not showing?
Usually a missing phone number, a recently changed @handle, an unpaid failed card, or a wait after subscribe. Also check you subscribed on the correct account. I do not buy a third-party instant verify service.
