The translator knows a few hundred everyday words (feelings, food, weather, work, animals, travel). Words it does not recognise stay as they are, so nothing gets mangled.

How the emoji translator works

The translator has a dictionary of a few hundred everyday words (feelings, food and drink, weather, work, money, animals, travel, sport) matched whole-word and case-insensitively. Known words get their emoji; unknown words are left alone, so a sentence never comes out garbled. The reverse mode uses the same dictionary backwards.

Using emoji in captions without overdoing it

  • One emoji at the start of a line works as a bullet and is the most common use in Instagram and LinkedIn posts.
  • Emoji as a replacement for words (the "heavy" mode) is for puzzles and story games, not for a caption people need to read.
  • Screen readers announce each emoji by name, so "🔥🔥🔥" reads as "fire fire fire". One is enough.
  • On X every emoji counts as two characters.

Frequently asked questions

Can it translate emoji back to text?

Yes. Switch to "Emoji → text". Any emoji in the dictionary becomes its word; emoji it does not know stay as they are.

Why did some words not get an emoji?

Only words in the dictionary are matched. Names, technical terms and most verbs stay as text on purpose.

Is it free?

Yes, and everything runs in your browser.
