Instagram Grid Maker
Drop in a photo, pick the grid size and download the tiles. Each tile is cut at 1080px wide (the size Instagram uses) and numbered so you post them in the right order. The cropping happens in your browser; the photo is never uploaded.
JPG, PNG, WebP · at least 1080px wide for a sharp grid
Tiles are cropped from the centre of your image to the selected shape, then cut into equal pieces at 1080px width each: the size Instagram uses. Nothing is uploaded; the cuts happen with the canvas API in your browser.
How to make an Instagram grid post
- Upload a photo at least 3,240px wide for a 3-column grid (1080 × 3). Smaller images still work but will be upscaled.
- Choose 3×1 (a single row), 3×2, 3×3 or 3×4.
- Pick square tiles or 4:5 portrait tiles: Instagram now shows the profile grid in 4:5, so portrait tiles line up better.
- Download all tiles and post them last tile first: tile 9, then 8, down to 1, so tile 1 ends up top-left.
Grid posts and the 2025 profile change
Instagram switched profile grids from square to 4:5 portrait thumbnails in early 2025. A grid built from square tiles gets cropped at the top and bottom on the profile; the 4:5 option here cuts tiles that match the new grid. Individual tiles still show in full in the feed.
Grid posts are a commitment: every later post shifts the mosaic by one, so most accounts use them for a launch or a pinned trio rather than permanently.
Frequently asked questions
What size should Instagram grid tiles be?
1080px wide each. 1080×1080 for square, 1080×1350 for the 4:5 profile grid.
What order do I post grid tiles in?
Bottom row first, right to left, finishing with tile 1. Instagram fills the grid newest-first, so the last tile you post ends up top-left.
Can I schedule the whole grid?
Yes. Schedule the tiles a minute apart in reverse order with Social by InstantDM and the grid assembles itself.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The split uses the canvas API in your browser.
